When a Stranger Walked Into Church and Found Hope
Hey everybody, Pastor Sterling Copeland here with Christ’s Body Ministries. I want to share a moment that reminded me exactly why we do what we do.
Yesterday, we were at Southwest Community Church in Littleton for a Missions Sunday. We had a table set up with our Christ’s Body Manna Bags—simple care kits filled with food, water, socks, hand warmers, and other essentials for people living on the streets. Then something incredible happened. A man experiencing homelessness walked straight into the sanctuary. He didn’t come to attend church. He didn’t come for a service. He came because he believed one thing: church helps people.
He walked up and simply asked, “Do you have anything for me?” And God had already answered. Because Christ’s Body Ministries was there. Because Southwest Community Church had opened their doors. Because the Body of Christ showed up together. The elders and deacons gently pointed him to the table of Manna Bags and told him there was something there that might be a blessing. He walked over, picked up a bag, and walked back out into the world.
That was it. One moment. One bag. One life touched. But I couldn’t stop thinking, what if we hadn’t been there? What if the church hadn’t been ready?
That is what Manna Bags are all about. They are small. They are simple. But they are powerful. They say you are seen, you matter, you are not alone. This is what it means to be the Church—not just gathering inside four walls, but stepping into moments when someone needs hope right now. That man didn’t need a sermon. He needed care. And God used a church, a table, and a simple bag to meet him exactly where he was.
This is just one of many stories, and there are so many more waiting to happen. If your church wants to be part of moments like this, we would love to partner with you. Together, we get to be the Church. Together, we get to care for the poor and needy. Together, we get to carry hope into the streets.
