12 May The Paintbrush That Helped Rocky Start Over
When Rocky walked out of prison, he wasn’t looking for a handout. He was looking for a chance to rebuild his life.
Growing up in Denver, life had never been very stable for him. Family struggles and years of difficult decisions eventually led him down a path that ended in prison. After spending so much time behind bars, it became hard for him to imagine life looking any different.
But when he was released, Rocky knew one thing for certain: he didn’t want to go back to the life he had left behind.
That’s when he came to Christ’s Body Ministries.
Through our CORE program, Rocky found more than just a place to stay. He found people who welcomed him, encouraged him, and walked alongside him during one of the hardest transitions of his life. Like many people reentering society after prison, he faced obstacles almost immediately. Finding work was difficult. Managing his mental health was difficult. Simply adjusting to everyday life again was difficult.
But through every challenge, Christ’s Body Ministries remained a steady presence.
Over time, something began to change in Rocky. A part of him that had been buried for years slowly came back to life.
Rocky has been an artist since he was a child. One day, he picked up a paintbrush and started helping around the ministry. First it was a garage door. Then railings, walls, and hallways. Before long, the property was pulsating with fresh color and new life.
No one asked him to do it. He simply wanted to give back to the place that had given him hope.
Today, Rocky’s handiwork can be seen throughout Christ’s Body Ministries with red accents and a nicely finished creme color. What began as painting became something much deeper. It became healing. It became purpose. It became a reminder that restoration is possible.
Stories like Rocky’s are why this ministry exists.
Every day at Christ’s Body Ministries, we meet people who are searching for stability, hope, and a fresh start. Transformation rarely happens overnight. More often, it happens through simple acts of consistency: a meal served every morning, a safe place to stay, someone willing to listen, and a community that refuses to give up on people.
That kind of consistency is only possible because of faithful supporters like you.
Right now, every donation to Christ’s Body Ministries is being doubled through our $50,000 Challenge Grant. Your gift today can provide twice the impact, helping us continue serving men and women like Rocky who need support, encouragement, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
We also invite you to consider becoming one of our monthly “Heroes of Hope.” Monthly supporters provide the steady foundation that keeps our doors open day after day and allows us to continue walking alongside people during their journey toward stability and healing.
Would you prayerfully consider making a gift today?
Blessings,
Dr. Jim Copeland
Executive Director
P.S. Rocky’s story is still being written, and there are many others just like him walking through our doors every week. Thanks to our $50,000 Challenge Grant, your gift today will be matched dollar for dollar to help us continue offering hope, stability, and a second chance to those who need it most.
