Faith, Fellowship, and Daily Bread: Stacey and Desiree’s Journey with Christ's Body
My name is Stacey Thomas, and this is my wife, Desiree Codd Thomas. Together, we’ve journeyed from California to Denver, Colorado, in search of hope and renewal. Life has thrown us some challenges, but it’s also led us to a place that feels like an answered prayer: Christ’s Body Ministries.
For the past month and a half, we’ve found a home here—not just in the physical sense, but spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. We come to Christ’s Body every Monday through Friday, from 7 to 9 a.m., to be a part of Daily Bread, a program that provides more than just food and showers. It offers spiritual support, counseling, and most importantly, a sense of purpose and faith.
The Heart of Pastoral Care: Finding Strength in Hard Times
When people hear the term “pastoral care,” they might wonder what it means. For us, it’s been about finding hope when we felt hopeless. It’s not just talking about your troubles—it’s someone meeting you in the middle of your brokenness and reminding you of God’s love. Whether you feel lost, overwhelmed, or just need a place to breathe, the people at Christ’s Body offer the encouragement and prayers that lift you back up.
This place has made us feel seen and understood during some of the hardest days of our lives. They meet you where you are, without judgment, and guide you to resources that can help—whether you’re struggling with homelessness, depression, or just trying to make sense of life. They bring the good news of Jesus Christ to every conversation, and that has been more powerful than anything else they offer.
Restoring Faith: A New Beginning for Us Both
When we first came to Denver, we were carrying a lot—too much, honestly—for just the two of us. Life in California had become overwhelming, and we were running on empty, spiritually and emotionally. But stepping into Christ’s Body felt like walking into a place of healing.
The volunteers and staff don’t just offer pancakes and sausage, although that’s part of it, too! The real nourishment comes through their kindness and the way they encourage you to attend services and stay connected. One Friday, after breakfast, they invited us to come to church—and we’ve been coming ever since.
Desiree says it best: “I just feel in my spirit that we’re called to be here.” We don’t know exactly what God’s plan is for us yet, but we believe that being part of Christ’s Body is part of that calling. Whether that means becoming members or simply receiving the love they’ve already shown us, we know that we’ve been brought here for a reason.
Outreach with a Purpose: Souls Before Stew
What sets Christ’s Body apart is their relentless focus on what matters most: saving souls. They do so much more than provide meals or showers—they give people the greatest gift of all: the good news of Jesus Christ.
They’re not just waiting for people to come through their doors. They take their ministry to the streets, meeting people where they are, offering not only physical help but also hope and faith. The doors of Christ’s Body may not always be open, but their hearts are. They are always out in the community, spreading the word of God and trying to draw people closer to Him.
And to be honest, that good news of Jesus Christ means more than any bowl of oatmeal, any Chick-fil-A sandwich, or any cup of coffee. Those things are great, but what truly sustains us is knowing that we are not alone, that God loves us, and that there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
Genuine People, Real Passion
What has stood out the most to Desiree and me is how genuine the people at Christ’s Body are. You can feel their passion for helping others, and it’s not just something they do out of obligation—it’s who they are. They give from the heart, and they do it with the means they have. Whether it’s a kind word, a prayer, or a hot meal, they pour love into everything they offer.
We are so grateful for the people at Christ’s Body and the work they do every day. We know that without their love and support, life would be so much harder for us right now. They’ve already given us more than we could ever repay, and we believe they are making a difference—not just for us, but for everyone they serve.
Closing Thoughts: A Grateful Heart
We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but we trust that God’s plan is unfolding, and Christ’s Body is part of that plan. Whether we become official members of their church or simply continue to receive their love and support, we know we are in the right place.
Every day we spend at Christ’s Body is a blessing, and we are deeply thankful for everything they’ve done for us. They’ve helped us reconnect with our faith, find strength in difficult times, and remember that even in our darkest moments, God is always with us.
So, if you ever feel like there’s no way out, or if you think you’ve lost your way, remember this: There’s always hope, and there are always people who care. And if you’re ever in Denver, Christ’s Body is living proof that love and faith can change lives—just like they’ve changed ours.
Thank you, Christ’s Body, for everything you’ve done for us and for continuing to do for others. We are forever grateful.
