Pastoring the Homeless: My Unexpected Calling

When I first stepped into this role, I had no idea how deeply it would impact my heart.

My name is Harold Velasquez, but around here at Christ’s Body Ministries, I’m known as Pastor Harold. I have the privilege—and I truly mean privilege—of pastoring the homeless. Every morning from 7 to 9 a.m., we open our doors for Daily Bread, our morning service where we offer warm food, hot showers, clean clothes, and—most importantly—hope.

Hope for the broken.
Hope for the addicted.
Hope for those society overlooks.

These are the people Jesus came for. And now, I get to look them in the eye, hear their stories, pray over their wounds, and remind them they are seen, loved, and not forgotten. Many are navigating unimaginable pain and isolation, yet they show up—because here, they find dignity.

And here, we serve Jesus by serving them.

I’ve served in ministry for years, but this past year has changed me. Nothing has moved my soul more than pastoring the poor right here in the alleyways and streets of Denver. Each face, each soul, is sacred.

I want to invite you into this sacred work.

Come volunteer. Come serve. Come witness what God is doing each morning through Daily Bread. Whether you help in the kitchen, at the door, or simply by offering a smile—you are part of something holy.

We’re not just giving out meals.
We’re offering the love of Christ—one morning at a time.

God bless you,
Pastor Harold
