On The Streets With Dr. Jim

BLOG

One Person. One Job. One Day A Week.

Before anything else starts, we pray. Not because we have to, but because we need God in this. We ask Him to bless the food, to let it actually help people, and to open hearts if someone needs prayer. That is how the day begins.

Hi everyone, Jim Copeland here from Christ’s Body Ministries. We were out on the streets recently with some of our partners, serving food, handing out clothing, and spending time with people. It was a great day. We had a lot of volunteers, a lot of energy, and a lot of good happening right in front of us.

But as I was out there, I kept thinking about something.

Days like that are incredible when we have a big group. Everything runs smoothly, there is momentum, and we are able to reach a lot of people. But what really makes this ministry work is not just big days. It is consistency.

It is knowing that when someone shows up on a Tuesday morning, the same person is there. The same role is covered. The same care is being given. Week after week.

That is where real change happens.

So what we are looking for is simple. One person. One job. One day a week.

Not ten things. Not every day. Just one.

It might be helping serve food during Daily Bread. It might be running part of the clothing area. It might be helping with showers. It might be standing outside and making sure people’s belongings are safe while they come in. It might be praying with people or just being present and available.

When someone steps into one role consistently, something shifts. That area becomes stronger. People begin to recognize you. Trust builds. You start to take ownership of that space, and it stops being just something you help with and starts becoming something you care about.

And for the people we serve, that consistency matters more than anything.

They start to see the same faces. They know what to expect. They know someone will be there. And in a life that can feel unpredictable, that kind of stability goes a long way.

We saw a glimpse of that out on the streets. Volunteers stepping in, doing what needed to be done, showing up in real ways. And it was powerful.

But imagine that same level of care, not just on big days, but every single week. The same people, the same roles, showing up again and again.

That is what we are building toward.

We are going to keep showing up. We are going to keep serving meals, handing out clothing, and meeting people where they are. But the strength of what we do comes down to people who are willing to take one small piece and do it consistently.

One person. One job. One day a week.

That is how this grows. That is how this lasts. And that is how real impact happens.
