Jerry Sees the Need Up Close Every Day
Most people do not think much about clothing. It is usually a simple decision. A bag dropped off, a few items cleaned out of a closet, something extra that is no longer needed. It feels small and easy to move on from. But inside Christ’s Body Ministries, clothing is one of the most constant needs, and one of the most important. Jerry Hall sees that every single day. He oversees the clothing area, where donations come in and go right back out, often faster than people would expect. There is no stockpile building up in the back. What comes in gets used.
“We always need clothes,” Jerry says. Men come through the doors wearing the same clothes they have had on for days, sometimes longer. Clothes that are worn down, dirty, or not built for the weather. And when they ask if there is anything clean, anything that fits, anything that helps them feel like themselves again, Jerry is the one helping meet that need. The requests are simple, but they matter. Shirts, pants, jeans, socks, underwear. “We need mediums, smalls, larges. We can use whatever you have,” he says. And then there are the things people do not always think about. Razors and basic hygiene items. The small details that can make a big difference in how someone feels when they walk out the door. “A lot of people ask for razors, and we just do not have that right now.”
That is the reality here. The need does not slow down, but neither does the impact. Because when someone walks out with clean clothes, something shifts. It is not just about comfort. It is dignity. It is confidence. It is the difference between feeling invisible and feeling seen. It can change how someone carries themselves, how they show up in a conversation, and even how they begin to see their future. For many, it becomes a first step toward something more stable.
Jerry understands that. That is why he treats every item like it matters, because it does. Every shirt, every pair of socks, every jacket ends up in the hands of someone who needs it. And this only works because people keep giving. Because someone, somewhere, decided what they had could help someone else.
If you have ever wondered if something as simple as clothing really makes a difference, it does. Every single day. And right now, there is a real need for clothes of all sizes, along with socks, underwear, and basic hygiene items like razors. If you have something to give, it will be used. And if you want to be part of what is happening here, this is one of the simplest ways to step in. Donate clothing or get involved. Because what feels small to you might be the very thing that helps someone take their next step forward.
