How to Make a Christ’s Body Coffee

Blog

Every morning before the sun fully comes up, the coffee starts flowing at Christ’s Body Ministries.

And if you ask around long enough during Daily Bread, you’ll eventually hear somebody mention the legendary “Christ’s Body coffee.”

So naturally, we had Robert, better known around here as “the coffee guy,” show us exactly how it’s made.

According to Robert, a true Christ’s Body coffee starts with a 16oz white styrofoam cup. Then comes four tablespoons of creamer. After that? Six tablespoons of sugar.

Yes. Six.

“We are not joking folks,” Robert laughed during the interview. “Sugar is the most important thing.”

Then finally, after all the sugar and creamer are packed into the cup, the coffee gets poured in.

Strong coffee. Strong enough to wake you up early in the morning after sleeping outside in the cold.

Honestly, the recipe is a little ridiculous. But it’s also kind of perfect.

Because the coffee itself is only part of the story.

At Daily Bread, coffee is one of the first things many people receive when they walk through the doors in the morning. Before the meals, before the showers, before the clothing closet, before the conversations, there’s usually a hot cup of coffee waiting.

And over time, those small things matter more than people realize.

Robert comes every morning not just to serve coffee, but to get to know the men and spend time with them. He knows how they like it. Some want extra sugar. Some want extra creamer. Some apparently even like the creamer left a little chunky on top.

And somehow, all of those little details become part of the community here.

A hot cup of coffee may not seem life-changing. But when someone has spent the night outside, is exhausted, cold, struggling, or simply feeling invisible, small acts of consistency and care matter.

That’s part of what Daily Bread has always been about.

Not just serving food, but creating a place where people feel welcomed, known, and treated with dignity.

So yes, the Christ’s Body coffee is very strong.
Very sweet.
And probably unlike any coffee you’ve ever had before.

But around here, it’s become one more small way we help people start the morning knowing somebody cares they showed up.
