God Is Still Giving Years Back

Every Wednesday night, a group of men gathers at Christ’s Body Ministries around a table, a meal, and a shared belief that God is not finished with them yet.

Some people would look around the room and see men with difficult pasts. Men who have experienced homelessness. Men coming out of prison. Men carrying regrets, mistakes, broken relationships, and years they wish they could get back.

I look around the room and see something different.

I see restoration.

One of the things I shared recently with the group came from the book of Joel, where God promises to restore the years the locusts have eaten. That verse has become deeply personal to many of us because we know what it feels like to lose years.

For some men, those years were lost to addiction. For others, incarceration. For some, it was homelessness, poor decisions, broken families, or simply living without direction and purpose. The details are different, but the feeling is often the same. You wake up one day and wonder how so much time slipped away.

The beautiful thing about God is that He specializes in restoration.

Not just forgiveness. Restoration.

He takes what feels wasted and gives it purpose. He takes what feels broken and begins putting it back together. He doesn’t erase the past, but He redeems it. Over time, He uses even the hardest chapters of our lives to help someone else who is walking through a similar struggle.

That’s one of my favorite things about Men’s Round Table.

The men who have walked through the hardest seasons are often the first ones encouraging someone else. A man who was homeless is now mentoring another man who is homeless. A man who came out of prison is helping another man navigate life after prison. Men who once needed guidance are now providing it.

That’s not something we manufactured. That’s something God is doing.

Every Wednesday night we share a meal together before we share life together. Most weeks, I’m the one cooking. Sometimes Chef Monte jumps in and helps carry the load. The food isn’t really the point, but it matters. There is something powerful about sitting down together, slowing down, and creating space for conversation.

Some of the best moments of the night don’t happen during a lesson. They happen over dinner. They happen when one man realizes he’s not alone. They happen when someone shares a struggle they’ve never talked about before. They happen when another man across the table says, “I’ve been there too.”

Week after week, I watch God use those moments.

Not dramatically. Not all at once.

Just steadily.

One conversation. One prayer. One meal. One relationship at a time.

That’s what restoration often looks like.

If you’d like to support this ministry, one of the greatest ways to help is by providing a meal for Men’s Round Table. We typically feed 15 to 20 men each Wednesday evening. It doesn’t have to be fancy. A large casserole, baked pasta, enchiladas, or another entrée prepared in aluminum catering pans can make a tremendous difference.

A meal may not seem like much, but every Wednesday night it creates the space for fellowship, discipleship, encouragement, and healing.

Because around these tables, God is still restoring lives. And for many of the men who walk through our doors, He’s still giving years back.
