From Pancakes to Baptisms: What God Is Doing Through Daily Bread
Hi, my name is Harold Velasquez, and I have the joy of serving as the Director of Daily Bread here at Christ’s Body Ministries.
Every weekday, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., the doors open and breakfast is served. For those living on the streets, it’s more than just a meal—it’s stability, it’s dignity, and it’s love in action.
Thanks to our amazing cook, every morning the room fills with the smell of something good: sausage and eggs, French toast, and on Fridays, stacks of hot pancakes. The men and women who come in often tell us it’s the best breakfast in town. And I believe them—not just because of the food, but because of the atmosphere of love and respect we’re building together.
But for me, the best part isn’t just serving plates of food—it’s serving the hope of Jesus. Every day, I get to walk around, talk with folks, pray with them, and share the good news. Yes, we have food. Yes, we have showers and clothing. But the heart of it all is Christ.
And we’re seeing lives changed. This very Friday, we already have three people signed up to be baptized. Why? Because they’ve met Jesus here. They’ve laid down their old life and are stepping into a brand new one. That’s not something a plate of pancakes can do—that’s the power of the gospel at work.
And here’s the truth: none of this would be possible without you. Your donations, your prayers, your volunteer hours—those are what fuel this ministry. When you give, when you serve, you’re not just providing food or clothing—you’re part of someone’s transformation story.
So let me say this clearly: thank you. Thank you for standing with us, for believing in what God is doing here, and for helping us make sure no one gets forgotten in this city.
And if you’ve never come down to Christ’s Body, I want to invite you. Come volunteer with us. Spend a morning serving breakfast, handing out clothing, or praying with someone. I promise—you’ll see Jesus in the alley, at the tables, and in the lives He’s changing.
God bless you, and may your day be filled with the same joy we get to see here every morning at Daily Bread.
