From the Streets to FOX31: Our Story Gets Told
I recently had the chance to sit down with FOX31 here in Denver and talk about what’s going on at Christ’s Body Ministries. It’s always a little tough to put it into words, because what we do isn’t complicated, but it’s real. And it’s happening every single day.
Every morning from 7 to 9, people walk through our doors at 850 Lincoln. Some are coming straight from the streets. Some slept in their cars. Some are working jobs and still can’t quite make it. And what they find when they come in is pretty simple. A hot meal. A shower. Clean clothes. A place where someone knows their name.
We serve over a hundred people every morning. Chef Monte is back there taking whatever food we can get and somehow turning it into meals people call some of the best in Denver. But it’s not really about the food. It’s about dignity. It’s about someone sitting down, eating something good, getting cleaned up, and being treated like they matter.
Because they do.
One of the things I shared in the interview is that you really don’t know how someone ended up here. People assume things, but the truth is it can be one bad break. A job lost. A bill unpaid. A car that stops working. And suddenly everything starts to fall apart. And then there are others dealing with addiction or mental health. We see all of it.
We also serve a group of people that a lot of places won’t. Folks who’ve been turned away, who have nowhere else to go. And when they come through our doors, we treat them the same as anyone else. With respect. With dignity. With the belief that their life still has purpose.
And we’re seeing more and more of it.
We’ve seen about a 30 percent increase in people coming through. More meals. More clothing. More need. It’s not slowing down.
The other thing people don’t always realize is how small our team is. We don’t have a big staff. We don’t have layers of people behind the scenes. We’ve got a handful of staff, a lot of volunteers, and a commitment to show up every day and do the work.
And by God’s grace, we keep doing it.
Recently, something unexpected happened. A simple post online led to over a hundred new donors. That turned into a Westword article, and now this FOX31 interview. What used to be one of Denver’s best kept secrets is starting to get out there. And that’s been encouraging, because it means more people are seeing the work and stepping into it with us.
But I want to be honest with you.
This ministry runs month to month. Some months are strong. Some are tight. There are times where we’re just trying to make sure everything gets covered. That’s the reality of doing this kind of work.
What makes the biggest difference is consistency.
Monthly partners are what keep this place moving. They’re the reason the doors open in the morning. They’re the reason the food is ready, the showers are running, and the team is here when people walk in.
If you feel something pulling at you as you read this, that’s probably not by accident.
You can step into this in a real, tangible way by becoming a monthly partner:

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about one moment.
It’s about being here tomorrow… and the day after that… and the next.
