11 Aug David Just Needed One More Chance
I want to tell you about David.
David recently moved out of Christ’s Body Ministries and into his own housing. That may sound like one simple sentence, but if you know this work, you know there is nothing simple about it.
David grew up in Fort Collins after his family moved to Colorado when he was seven years old. His life took some hard turns. He struggled with alcohol. He spent years in prison. But while he was incarcerated, something began to change. David started reading his Bible. He went to Bible studies. He stayed out of trouble. And he began asking God to help him find the right place to go when he got out.
God led him to Christ’s Body.
When David came to us, he was not just looking for a bed. He was looking for a place to keep rebuilding his life. He had already been walking in sobriety for more than four years, but he needed community, structure, encouragement, and a place where his faith could continue to grow.
At Christ’s Body, David found what he needed.
He became part of our daily rhythm. In the mornings, he helped serve breakfast to men and women experiencing homelessness in downtown Denver. He watched people come through the line hungry, tired, worn down, and grateful for a meal. And as he served, God kept working in him.
David told us that Christ’s Body helped him think less about himself and more about others. He said that being here taught him to be more helpful, to love people, and to see the needs around him. He talked about how much the Bible studies meant to him, how kind the staff were to him, and how grateful he was that God brought him here.
One thing David said stayed with me. He said Christ’s Body is “an excellent place for God to work through people and help people.
That is exactly what we pray for this ministry.
Every day, Christ’s Body is serving people who are hungry, homeless, newly released from prison, in recovery, or trying to find their way back to stability. Some come for breakfast. Some come for showers and clothing. Some come through our residential programs. Some are ready for big change. Some are not there yet.
But every person who comes through our doors is made in the image of God.
David’s story reminds us why this ministry matters. It is not only about a meal, though meals matter. It is not only about a bed, though safe housing matters deeply. It is about creating a place where people can encounter the love of Christ, take the next step, and begin to imagine a different future.
David is now housed. He is still sober. He is still remembering the Bible studies, the fellowship, the service, and the people who walked with him during his time here.
And you helped make that possible.
Your prayers, gifts, and faithful support help keep the doors open for men like David. You help provide food, shelter, discipleship, recovery support, reentry care, and the steady presence of Christian community. You help create a place where God can work in real lives.
