Before You Toss It, Let It Bless Someone

At Christ’s Body Ministries, clothing is one of the most practical ways we serve people experiencing homelessness in Denver. A clean shirt, a warm coat, a pair of socks, or a pair of shoes can make a real difference for someone who is living outside, starting over, or simply trying to get through another hard day.

Jerry Hall helps oversee our clothing donations, and he sees the need every day. Men come through our doors looking for shirts, pants, socks, underwear, shoes, sweatshirts, and basic clothing they can wear with dignity. We are grateful for every donation we receive, but right now we especially need men’s clothing in smaller and medium sizes. We often receive extra-large items, but many of our guests need smalls, mediums, and larges.

We also accept women’s clothing, including undergarments and shoes, because women come to Christ’s Body for help as well. The one category we do not accept is children’s clothing, simply because children are not part of our daily ministry services.

Clothing donations do more than fill a shelf. They help someone take a shower and put on clean clothes. They help someone go to an appointment, sit down for breakfast, walk into a job interview, or simply feel human again. These are not small things.

We also accept hygiene items and year-round survival needs, including toothbrushes, travel-size shampoo and conditioner, soap, disposable razors, hair brushes, sunscreen, chapstick, lotion, coats, gloves, socks, winter hats, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, and backpacks.

So before you clean out your closet and send everything somewhere else, consider bringing it to Christ’s Body. Ask a friend, a church group, a neighbor, or your small group to do the same. If you have clothing or practical items sitting unused, they can become a blessing to someone in downtown Denver.
