“It’s a Privilege”: Why Paul Makes Time for Every Conversation

Paul Gonzales shares how listening, prayer, and encouragement help our neighbors find hope and purpose.

On a recent morning at Christ’s Body Ministries, Paul Gonzales was talking with guests and praying with someone about what they were facing. When asked what it’s like to spend his mornings this way, he didn’t hesitate: “It’s a privilege.”

For Paul, serving begins with taking time to listen. Every person brings their own concerns, experiences, and hopes. A conversation gives him an opportunity to hear what’s troubling someone and remind them that God sees them in the middle of it.

“We love the Lord, and we love bringing hope and joy to people that need it desperately,” Paul shared.

At Daily Bread, breakfast creates a place for those connections to happen. People gather for a meal, and while they’re here, there’s an opportunity to talk, ask for prayer, or share something that’s been weighing on them. Paul values being available for those moments.

His encouragement comes from a simple conviction: God knows what our neighbors are going through and is present with them. Paul wants the care people receive at CBM to help make that truth feel personal.

“We can walk with people, whatever they’re going through,” he explained. “That’s what we want to do here.”

Walking alongside someone means making room for their story and staying open to another conversation. It means offering prayer and encouragement while recognizing that their circumstances may take time to change.

Paul also wants our neighbors to see possibilities ahead. He speaks about encouraging people toward the purpose God has for their lives—a purpose that still matters during hardship, uncertainty, or homelessness.

These conversations are part of the daily work your support makes possible. Alongside meals and practical care, our neighbors find people like Paul who are willing to listen, pray, and take the next steps with them.
